How to cancel Speechify
Three paths, depending on where you signed up. The whole thing takes under two minutes — once you know which one you used.
After cancelling, give your Mac the text-to-speech app it should have shipped with. Aloud is studio-grade neural voices, a system-wide hotkey, on-device, no character cap. €9.99/mo.
TL;DR
Speechify direct (web): speechify.com/account → Subscription → Cancel.
iPhone / iPad: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Speechify → Cancel.
Android: Play Store → profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Speechify → Cancel.
Confirmation email arrives within 5 minutes — if it doesn't, the cancel didn't go through.
First: figure out where you're being billed
Speechify sells subscriptions through three different channels, and each one has a different cancel path. Trying to cancel the wrong channel is the single most common reason people end up charged for another month.
Open your most recent Speechify receipt and look at the sender:
- From
billing@speechify.comorsupport@speechify.com— you signed up directly on the web, billed by Speechify through Stripe. - From
no_reply@email.apple.com— you subscribed inside the iOS or Mac app, billed by Apple. - From
googleplay-noreply@google.com— you subscribed inside the Android app, billed by Google Play.
If you can't find a receipt, check the App Store first (most mobile users), then your card statement for "SPEECHIFY" or "STRIPE *SPEECHIFY".
Cancel a Speechify web subscription
-
Sign in at speechify.com
Go to speechify.com/login and sign in with the email you used. If you signed in with Google or Apple originally, use the same button now — a different sign-in path creates a different account.
-
Open Account → Subscription
Click your avatar in the top right, then Account settings, then the Subscription tab. The cancel button sits at the bottom of that page.
-
Click "Cancel subscription" and confirm
Speechify will offer a discount, then a downgrade, then ask why you're leaving. Pick anything; the choice doesn't change whether the cancel goes through. The final confirmation screen is the one that actually cancels.
-
Watch for the email
You'll get a "Subscription cancelled" email within five minutes. If it doesn't arrive, you didn't reach the final screen — repeat from step 3.
Cancel Speechify on iPhone or iPad
-
Open Settings, tap your name at the top
This is your Apple ID page. The same place you change your iCloud storage plan.
-
Tap Subscriptions
You'll see every active App Store subscription. Speechify shows up as Speechify — Premium or similar.
-
Tap Speechify, then Cancel Subscription
Confirm. Apple shows the date you'll keep access until — that's the end of your current billing period.
You can also cancel from a Mac: System Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases → Manage → Subscriptions. Or on the web at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
Cancel Speechify on Android
-
Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture
Top-right corner. Then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
-
Tap Speechify, then Cancel subscription
Pick a reason if asked, then confirm.
You can also cancel from the web at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
If Speechify just charged you
The Speechify free trial converts to a paid annual plan automatically — and the charge is large because it's billed yearly, not monthly. If you cancel within a few days of the charge, you can sometimes get a refund:
- Billed by Speechify: email support@speechify.com from the same address you used to subscribe. Be polite and brief — "I forgot the trial was ending; I'd like a refund of the annual charge." They approve a meaningful share of these.
- Billed by Apple: open reportaproblem.apple.com, find the Speechify charge, choose Request a refund, pick a reason. Apple decides within a few days.
- Billed by Google: visit play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory, find Speechify, request a refund.
What happens after you cancel
- Access stays on until the end of your billing period. Cancel mid-month, you keep premium until month-end.
- Your library stays. Imported documents and notes are still there if you sign back in — Speechify keeps the account on a free tier with daily reading limits and standard voices only.
- Auto-renew is off. No surprise charge next month. Re-subscribe any time.
FAQ
Can I get a refund after the annual charge hits?
Sometimes. Speechify offers refunds at their discretion if you reach out within a few days of the charge — email support@speechify.com. Apple and Google handle their own refunds through the links above; both approve a fair number of "I forgot the trial was ending" requests, especially for first-time buyers.
Why is there no cancel button inside the Speechify app?
Subscriptions started on iOS or Android are billed by Apple and Google, not by Speechify. Apple and Google don't allow apps to cancel their billing in-app — the cancel has to happen in Settings (iOS) or Play Store (Android).
Will I lose my notes and library?
No. Your account stays open and your library stays accessible. After your billing period ends, the account drops to Speechify's free tier — you keep the imported content but lose premium voices and unlimited reading.
Speechify charged me even though I cancelled — what now?
The most common cause is cancelling on the web when you actually subscribed through the App Store. The web cancel didn't reach Apple, and Apple kept billing. Cancel a second time through the right channel, then request a refund from that channel for the most recent charge.
Is there a Mac-only alternative I can use?
Aloud is the Mac text-to-speech app. Studio-grade neural voices, system-wide hotkey, on-device, no character cap. €9.99/mo, cancel any time from the app's Settings.
